Hike Outing: Santeetlah Headwaters Mountain Treasure Area

April 20, 2013

Join us for a hike that will explore a little-known remnant of old-growth forest within the Santeetlah Headwaters Mountain Treasure Area that rivals Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest in its grandeur and beauty. There should be good displays of wildflowers and early arrivals of migratory birds this time of year. The hike will be very difficult, mostly off-trail, and will include four very wet stream crossings.  The hike location is in a remote area of Graham County and will require a long car ride from most locations. This trip is co-hosted with the Western North Carolina Alliance, and led by WNCA’s Public Lands Field Biologist Josh Kelly. Space is limited. To RSVP, please e-mail jill_gottesman@tws.org
