NC Mountain Treasures Camporee Weekend!

April 13, 2012toApril 15, 2012

April 13th-15th, Mortimer Campground, near Wilson Creek in Collettsville, NC

Join the Carolina Mountain Club (CMC) for two days of hiking through Mountain Treasure Areas on this early Spring weekend! From our central car-camping location at Mortimer Campground, a blast of hikes will show us a cluster of NC Mountain Treasures. There will be four hikes on Saturday and four more on Sunday.  This is the first of six Camporee Weekends that will each focus on a different NC Mountain Treasure Conservation Area, and this time our focus is on the Linville/Grandfather Mountain Conservation Area.

For more specific hike information, directions, or other information visit the Camporee page on the CMC website.  For other questions or to RSVP email jill_gottesman@tws.org.

The Camporee series with the Carolina Mountain Club is an important part of our preparation for the upcoming management plan revision process for the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. On our hikes we will be on the lookout to observe and record old growth and recovering forest, rare plants, streams, waterfalls, and other noteworthy natural and geological features. This field knowledge will provide essential data in our efforts to better protect these incredible wild lands in our backyard.
